2016

I should probably post something this year, so here are some highlights of stuff I did:

Bargue drawings...

A faux pulp book cover...

Some twitch emotes...

A whole bunch of quick and loose sketches...

And a bunch of things I wish I'd finished but haven't yet...

I've been feeling a bit discouraged lately.  I need to practice more.  I'd like to take some classes as well and try to improve because I know I can do better.

That's 2016 in brief.  I've done a lot more digital work and have been experimenting with colour.  I've been playing around with more classical practice but I still haven't dove into it wholeheartedly.  I also need to ensure that I finish what I start.  That said, I still feel like I've improved a bit.  Let's hope 2017 is a bit better, I suppose.

Bowser

I drew a Bowser:

For David because he's great and deserves a Bowser. :)

Sketch Avalanche

I'd normally call this a sketch dump, but there are so many sketches this time it's more like a sketch avalanche.

But first, here is a Shovel Knight medley from RichaadEB.  Shovel Knight is great.  You should play it.  Also check out Richard's youtube channel.  It is good.

These are probably my favourites from the batch.  I actually used some reference images for the batman characters (except the first one with batman and the joker, so those ones are not very accurate).  I don't read a lot of superhero comics so I can never remember what those characters look like.  I did not use a reference image for the Shovel Knight at the top and consequently some of the details are wrong, but I think it still looks pretty good.  The grinning guy and the moon guy are not based on anything.

The previous batch include some warm-up drawings, scribbles and other small drawings.  I didn't do many complete pictures in the past few months.  The few that I did were pieces of my comics, and those were done digitally.

These previous sketches are some of my characters that I'll use in my comics, some of whom I'm still trying to figure out.  Jang and Decker are pretty well refined at this point, but Clover and Ivy need a bit more work.  Pluto, Shiva and Nils from the bottom two pictures still have a long way to go.  Deke (in the fourth picture with Jang) was the first character I've ever designed, but I still haven't finalized him either.

I also did quite a bit of general practice in observational drawing, landscapes and "stage" planning for my comics.  I'm very weak in observational drawing, realism and backgrounds.  My perspective and shading is also quite bad.  I only included a few of these, since looking at pages of hands and bad landscapes would probably be dull.
