Danny Michel: Feather Fur and Fin
My goal is to get 50 albums featured, so I'll see how many I can get done tonight. As you can probably guess, these scans are from my actual album covers.
I'm not too sure what to say about Danny Michel. Maybe his music is pop? Maybe it's folk? Rock? This is another one where it's kind of tough to categorize. The same thing goes for Danny himself. In addition to being a great musician and songwriter, he also does a lot of production as well, most notably for Leeroy Stagger! Between the two, I think Danny's music is more interesting; not to disrespect Leeroy, because he's amazing too.
I had a tough time deciding whether to include this album or his "Live in Winnipeg" album. This one is more "official", but the Winnipeg concert is really fun. I'm a sucker for funny stage banter. In the end I decided on this one, because the studio album shows off his production skills as well. This album is extremely catchy. "Feather, Fur & Fin" has this nice rolling pace to it and it's a fun song to sing along to. "If God's On Your Side" has that same kind of quality and between the two you've already got your money's worth on this one. "Motorcade" is kind of a twist on Schubert's second piano trio, which is interesting in that it is immediately familiar; but it feels very much like a nice slow pop song, it's a really cool effect. I could describe every song on this album, but really, this is one of those albums that's solid gold cover-to-cover.
If you have a chance, check out every song on this album. Really, really good stuff.
