Sinistrio: Ride the Dragon

No, not Sinestro, Sinistrio. Sinistrio features van art on their album and had previously offered a free CD to anyone who wears a Slayer t-shirt to their gigs. Oh yeah, and they're a jazz band!

The band is based around an organ and plays a very modern funk style. It is (of course) a trio composed of guitar/microsynth, keyboards and drums. Their style is very accessible for non-jazz fans while still having a great deal of complexity and some great solos. Steve Fletcher plays the crap out of that keyboard. Like, wow.

In terms of music, it reminds me very much of Medeski, Martin and Wood's funky albums, but a little more rockin'. It's really tough to describe their sound beyond what I've already said, so I'll just let you listen. Keep an eye out for their cover of The Flaming Lips' "One More Robot" if you can find it. They really bring their own sound to it and it's awesome.

You may notice that the front cover of the album is on the wrong side. I have no idea why they did this. It's really annoying!!

The YouTube videos are scarce, but here is what I could find:
