Iron Age: The Sleeping Eye
The image above is kind of slapped together from the front cover and the inside leaf, because they didn't have the song titles on the back of the album. Sorry.
I have no idea who these guys are, except that they're from Texas. I tried to find some information about them, but there is very little about these guys on the internet. Instead of that, I'll tell you their names. There's Wade Allison on the guitar, Justin Mason on the bass, Jared Allison on the drums, Jason Tarpey on vocals, synth and prayer bowl (prayer bowl?), and Alex Hughes on the other guitar (you need at least two!). Wade Allison wrote most of the music, and I have to say he's got a good knack for fun Thrash metal.
It reminds me very much of "Reign in Blood" era Slayer. Very high tempo with the drums heavy in the mix. The biggest difference between Iron Age and Slayer would probably be that Iron Age doesn't have Dave Lombardo...but yeah, there's only one Dave Lombardo. This isn't really a high concept metal band like Tom Gabriel Fischer's "Triptykon" either, but it is a lot of fun. For those people who are looking for some high quality Thrash Metal and just want to listen to some really aggressive music with great guitar solos, Iron Age has that down.
"Sleeping Eye of the Watcher" through "Burden of Empire" are pretty much what you'd expect from a Thrash band, and they do it well. "Materia Prima" splits off the second half of the album with some ambient synth, which is pretty cool and unique for a band like this. The synth seems to be used primarily to hold creepy tones (kind of like Slayer did with the thunder rumble in "Raining Blood"). The style is pretty homogeneous throughout though, so it's something that's good to just put on in the background and enjoy when you're in a darker mood.
They don't have a whole lot of videos on YouTube, but here is what I could find:
