The Dojo Workhorse: Weapons-grade Romantic
"The Dojo Workhorse" is another project from Calgary's Dan Vacon, who you may remember from his other band "The Dudes". He's got a lot of play on CBC Radio 3 and CKUA as well as CJSR and CJSW in Edmonton and Calgary. That's really good, because more people should be hearing his music!
"Weapons-grade Romantic" is an excellent collection of pop-influenced love songs of very high quality. When I say pop, think "Joel Plaskett" or "David Myles". Good pop. It's pop with personality and truth, and a damn good sound. This is what SHOULD be playing on the radio. This is my idealized pop. Maybe it's not really pop at all. It IS an album full of songs about love and romance, does that make it pop? I guess that's not a really good description of what they sound like, but hey, trust me. It's good.
In this imperfect world of unrecognized talent we'll just have to spread the news by word-of-mouth. Take a listen to Dan Vacon and The Dojo Workhorse and tell your friends!
