Joe Bonamassa: Black Rock
Joe Bonamassa played his first major gig at the age of 12...alongside B.B. King. Seriously. At the time, B.B. had this to say of Joe Bonamassa:
“This kid's potential is unbelievable. He hasn't even begun to scratch the surface. He's one of a kind.”
Joe is now 33 years old and he (along with Derek Trucks) appears to be the heir to modern blues. Before I get too far ahead of myself, I should note that Joe's style is not the typical American blues. Joe Bonamassa is more directly the heir of Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Gary Moore. It's the kind of blues that's cut from the same cloth as Zeppelin and Cream.
The album itself rocks pretty damn hard for a blues album. There are some really slick mellow moments, but for the most part it doesn't let up. Even the slow ones are some really clap-inducing ass-movers. It's all a really crazy mix of blues and rock, and as it was with Zeppelin before it, the influences are so varied that it's tough to single out any kind of general description for the album as a whole. Just follow the links at the bottom and listen!
